NEW DELHI: Ashes of Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s mother Heeraba were immersed in the Ganga river at Haridwar on Saturday in a simple ceremony without any VIP arrangements.
The Prime Minister’s younger brother Pankaj Modi reached Haridwar on Saturday carrying the ashes of his mother. The ashes were immersed in the river at the Haridwar Ghat with Vedic rituals in a simple ceremony with no administrative arrangements.
Neither the administration nor the local BJP unit had any information about it.
Pankaj Modi returned after performing the rites. Modi’s mother Heeraba passed away on December 30 at the age of 99 in Ahmedabad.
The last rites of Prime Minister Modi’s mother had also ben performed in Ahmedabad without any VIP arrangements. The family had also made an appeal that the follower of Modi, the BJP cadres including senior functionaries, should go ahead with their scheduled engagements.
Modi performed the last rites of his mother in a simple ceremony with no special arrangements or any traffic restrictions.
The family’s insistence on keeping the rituals low key after Heeraba’s death is seen as a message that prominent and privileged families should not be extended any exceptiononal treatment.
The family also insisted that there will not be any memorial or a land dedicated in memory of Heeraba as it happens in cases of common people.
