Dirty clothes, toys and household waste are just some of the items of trash left littered outside multiple Vinnies stores across Adelaide over the festive period.
And rather than helping charities make money, it costs them to get rid of the junk – plus wastes volunteers’ time to sort it out.
Vinnies CEO Evelyn O’Loughlin pleaded with people to either wait until shops were open to donate good quality items, or throw it away at the right place, such as at a council tip.я╗┐
“It costs us tens of thousands of dollars to dispose of unwanted or unuseable items, that of course is money that could be better spent on supporting people in need across the state, ” she said.
In the past three months Vinnies has seen a 25 per cent increase in requests for assistance from people in need.

It’s a problem for other charities too, and all ask that people only donate items they know will be accepted, in the correct way.я╗┐
