The court heard that Dieter Schmid was sitting on a couch of an Ivanhoe home on October 9, 2021, when police entered and told him he was under arrest.
The 44-year-old then lunged at police officers, knocking the female leading senior constable to the ground.
The vision shows Schmid then charging at a male sergeant, shoving him out the door, before returning to the female officer and striking her head and body multiple times.
The court heard Schmid ran into the kitchen and opened the cutlery drawer before grabbing a 35-centimetre bread knife and stabbing the female officer in the back twice.
After pleading guilty to one count of recklessly causing injury and two counts of assaulting an emergency worker on duty in October last year, Schmid was jailed for the mandatory six months.
He has already spent time in custody.
The judge found his impaired mental functioning including psychotic episodes reduced his moral culpability.
Today he was handed a one-year community corrections order and faced court via video from home.
