Lucknow : Uttar PradeshтАЩs BJP government Monday downgraded Shivpal Singh YadavтАЩs security from тАШZтАЩ to тАШYтАЩ while chief minister Yogi Adityanath called him a тАЬpendulumтАЭ and a тАЬfootballтАЭ, days after the Pragatisheel Samajwadi Party (Lohia) MLA signalled truce and campaigned for nephew and Samajwadi Party chief Akhilesh YadavтАЩs wife Dimple ahead of the December 5 Mainpuri Lok Sabha bypoll.
The Yogi government had provided тАШZтАЩ security тАФ 22 personnel тАФ to Shivpal in 2018. The latest order to scale it down to тАШYтАЩ тАФ 11 cops тАФ was issued by UP police.
The decision sparked off a war of words. Samajwadi Party called the move тАЬpolitical vendettaтАЭ. BJP riposted that the curtailment was based on intelligence reports and there was no politics.
The downgrade came on a day CM Yogi kicked off a rally in Mainpuri with a World Cup-season onslaught on Shivpal.
тАЬHis (ShivpalтАЩs) condition has become like that of a pendulum that keeps moving from one side to another. The FIFA tournament is going on … some people have become like a football. They donтАЩt have their own momentum,тАЭ the CM told the rally for the bypoll necessitated by MP and SP patriarch Mulayam Singh YadavтАЩs death in October.
The rally was held in Karhal, an assembly seat represented by Akhilesh. Samajwadi Party leaders said BJP was not able to тАЬtolerate the unity of chacha (Shivpal) and bhatija (Akhilesh)тАЭ.
