Porinju Veliyath, Mukul Agrawal’s favourite SME stock soars nearly 1,800% in 10 years; key things to know

At the time when 118 small and medium enterprises (SMEs) moved from the NSE Emerge platform to the main bourses, the first-listed SME stock on the exchange has surged 1,780 per cent against the adjusted price of Rs 65 on November 12, 2012. With a market capitalisation of Rs 1,302 crore, shares of the company traded at Rs 1,221.90 on November 11, 2022. The scrip got listed on the bourses in September 2012.

This is Chennai-based Thejo Engineering, which is also owned by Porinju Veliyath’s PMS firm Equity Intelligence and individual investor Mukul Agrawal. Here’s all you need to know about the company.

Business: The company is engaged in providing service operations to the conveyor belt and bulk material handling systems in core sectors of the economy.

Financials: Consolidated gross sales of the company have jumped nearly 14 per cent annually to Rs 424.46 crore in FY22 against Rs 115.54 crore in FY12. On the other hand, the net profit of the company climbed around 17 per cent CAGR to Rs 42.51 crore from Rs 8.99 crore during the same period. The company will announce its half-yearly result for the period ended September 2022 on November 14, Monday.

Lot size: In the case of an SME stock, you cannot trade an amount lower than Rs 1 lakh. Also, the lot size varies with the price of the stocks. The lot size of Thejo Engineering was 150 shares on November 11, according to Zerodha’s Kite platform. Likewise, for Emkay Taps and Cutting Tools, the lot size was Rs 600 shares. Shares of Emkay Taps and Cutting Tools closed at Rs 259.40 on the NSE Emerge platform on November 11.

Shareholding pattern: For the latest quarter that ended September 30, 2022, promoters held a 54.44 per cent stake in the company against 54.71 as of March 31, 2022. Promoters held a 55.32 per cent stake on March 31, 2022, according to data available with NSE. Equity investor Mukul Agrawal also held 1,80,000 shares of the company as of September 30, 2022. On the other hand, Kochi-based investor Porinju Veliyath’s PMS firm Equity Intelligence India held 1,47,600 shares of the company.
