Rare pink auroras transform skies above Norway

Aя╗┐ dazzling display of extremely rare pink auroras transformed the skies above Norway, and one lucky photographer was able to capture the sight.

A tour group led by Markus Varik, a northern lights tour guide with the Greenlander tour company, had front row seats for the display on November 2.

The mesmerising lights were sparked by a solar storm that ripped temporary holes in the earth’s magnetic field.

“я╗┐Tonight’s Northern Lights didn’t even look like Northern Lights,” Varik wrote on his Facebook page.

“The strongest pink/purple I have ever seen.

“We were very lucky to witness it.

“Incredible thing about this nitrogen-fuelled purple is, it looks the same to the naked eyes compared to the green, which is almost always stronger inside the camera.”
