Neighbours claimed the 37-year-old driver ran from the wreckage to a nearby house where a family was inside settling in to watch the NRL grand final.

“He came up to the window and said, ‘Let me in, let me in’,” Renee Thomson said.

“He went to the front door and ripped our screen doors. So I went to the front door and just kind of put my body weight against the door and said, ‘This is my house, get out’.”

The man then allegedly ran from the house, and was confronted by police.

Police allege the 37-year-old driver became aggressive and assaulted police who responded by deploying a taser and a police dog to stop him.

He was arrested and taken to hospital without serious injuries where he was later charged with various dangerous driving and domestic violence offences.

The passengers inside the car were also taken to hospital.

Police will allege the driver trapped them in the car and crashed intentionally.

The family of the elderly couple whose home was ploughed into said it’s lucky they’re alive after the car blasted through the lounge room wall where the resident was sitting in his armchair, showering him in debris.
