LUCKNOW: BJP leaders from UP have found a considerable space in the fresh list of in-charges and co-incharges released by the party on Friday.
BJP national general secretary and party Rajya Sabha MP from UP, Arun Singh has been appointed in charge of Rajasthan, the Congress ruled state which heads for a state election next year, immediately followed by the parliamentary elections.
Similarly, BJP MP from Basti Harish Dwivedi has been appointed as co-incharge of Bihar, which recently witnessed a political turmoil after JD(U) leader Nitish Kumar snapped ties with BJP to join hands with Lalu Prasad’s RJD. Dwivedi, who happens to be the national secretary of the BJP, is expected to play a vital role in strengthening BJP in Bihar even as Nitish strives to cobble up a grand opposition alliance to take on the BJP in 2024 Lok Sabha polls.
Likewise, Gautam Buddh Nagar MP Mahesh Sharma has been given the responsibility of Tripura, a BJP ruled state which would also see assembly elections in 2023. Sharma had earlier been given the role in a party committee to consolidate the Brahmin community during the UP polls.
UP BJP leader and Etawah MP Ram Shakar Katheria, a Dalit, has been appointed as coincharge of Madhya Pradesh. Katheria, who has been the chairman of SC/ST commission in the past, is expected to play a crucial role in BJP’s outreach to Dalits in MP where assembly polls are due next year.
Former UP BJP chief and Rajya Sabha MP Laxmi Kant Bajpai has been given the responsibility of Jharkhand which also saw a political turbulence after the Election Commission of India recommended the disqualification of chief minister Hemant Soren as MLA under the Representation of the People Act, 1951 a fortnight ago. Bajpai, known for its organisational skills is expected to play a crucial role in winning support for the BJP in the 2024 Lok Sabha elections.
BJP’s Rajya Sabha MP from UP and former MLA from Gorakhpur (urban) Radha Mohan Das Agarwal has been made co-incharge of Kerala and in charge of Lakshadweep. Agarwal, who had been winning the Gorakhpur (urban seat) since 2002, had made the way for CM Yogi Adityanath to contest UP polls earlier this year.
In Kerala, Agarwal will assist former HRD minister Prakash Javdekar. BJP’s Kaushambi MP Vinod Sonkar, a Dalit, has been given the responsibility of Dadra and Nagar Haveli and Daman and Diu.
