Karnataka chief minister Basavaraj Bommai and former chief minister HD Kumaraswamy visited the flood-affected areas in Old Mysuru region on Monday. Bommai instructed the officials to intensify the relief work and control the damage soon.
“Today I visited and inspected the flood affected areas of Ramanagara and Channapatnam, met the flood affected victims of Bakhshi Lake in Ramanagara and listened to their plight. Ministers @RAshokaBJP @drashwathcn, former Chief Minister @hd_kumaraswamy and others accompanied. (Sic),” Bommai tweeted.
The total damage due to the floods is yet to be assessed and the Karnataka government has already announced holidays to all the schools in Mandya and Mysuru region as a precautionary measure.
The Bengaluru-Mysuru national highway which is all set to open in October has been submerged in water and many vehicles are stuck on both lanes of the highway.
The Ramanagara Police has directed the traffic and asked commuters to take an alternative route. It asked passengers who travel between Bengaluru and Mysuru to take Bengaluru – Kanakapura – Mysuru road instead of the Bengaluru-Mysuru highway.
A yellow alert has already been issued to Ramanagara, Bengaluru Urban, Bengaluru Rural, Mysuru, Mandya and Kolar districts of Karnataka. According to the Indian Meteorological Department, light to heavy moderate rains are expected to continue for the next few days in these places in the state. The department has also warned of thunderstorms with lightning in a few areas.

Dumka girl cremated amid tension in town; Govt promises speedy trial
The 16-year-old girl, who was allegedly set ablaze by a stalker last week in Jharkhand’s Dumka, was cremated on Monday morning under the watch of the district administration even as the state government promised a speedy trial in the case besides announcing financial help to the family of the deceased. She was then referred to Rajendra Institute of Medical Sciences in Ranchi with around 45 percent burn injuries. She succumbed to her injuries on Sunday.

‘Mission 2024’: Amit Shah to visit Bihar on Sept 23, first since NDA lost power
Union home minister Amit Shah will in September visit Bihar to kickstart the Bharatiya Janata Party’s ‘Mission 2024’ campaign with an eye on the next Lok Sabha elections, a month after the party was ousted from power by the Janata Dal (United). Shah will hold public meetings in Purnia and Kishanganj during his two-day tour of Bihar from September 23. The Kishanganj Lok Sabha seat went to the Congress.

Gujarat man wanted in a string of break-ins arrested in Borivali
A 36-year-old man from Gujarat who had been on a break-in spree in the city for the last one-and-a-half years, leaving behind 56 unsolved cases, was arrested in Borivali on Sunday. Investigation has also revealed that Ajit Arjun Pillai has been to jail over 35 times. The Borivali police received a tip-off that a serial thief would come to Om Nagar. Pillai allegedly confessed to having stolen around ₹50,000 from six shops in Borivali on Saturday night.

Why I still remember Bed No 10 after decades
I can remember his face, but not his name. And strangely his bed number. Bed no 10 was a muscular young lad, the kind who frequented the vyayamshalas which dotted central Mumbai at the time. For three months, he lay unconscious on that bed in Ward No 7 under our treatment. He never had a realistic chance of survival. Bed no 10 died after three months due to infections including a festering bed sore.

Frauds impersonate senior EOW officer, try to dupe his contact list
Mumbai After commissioner Vivek Phansalkar, joint commissioner of police Pravin Padwal in charge of the Economic Offences Wing is the latest senior officer to fall prey to an impersonation scam. Padwal said that on Monday afternoon, he was informed by three different senior Indian Police Service officers that they had received WhatsApp messages in his name, seeking money or Amazon gift cards.
