Elected panchayat representatives in Bihar will be now be required to report any instance of child marriage and dowry under their jurisdiction, failing which the government could start proceedings for their removal for not being able to discharge their duties, panchayati raj minister Samrat Choudhary said on Thursday, adding that necessary instructions to this effect have been issued.
тАЬThis will help in checking instances of child marriage as only legally valid marriages could be registered,тАЭ Choudhary said.
тАЬIf there is any information about child marriage, the ward member or the mukhiya concerned will visit the house of the family and ask them to refrain from it. If their advice is not heeded, they will pass on the information to higher officials for prompt action to prevent it,тАЭ he said.

Though the national family Heath survey (NFHS) data shows some dip in the percentage of girls married before the legally prescribed age between 2015-2020, it was still on a higher side at over 40%. This has led to the governmentтАЩs decision to involve PRIs for the social cause.

Six people were injured and debris entered around a dozen houses after a cloudburst triggered a flash flood at Chanaighad village of Nirmand tehsil in Anni sub-division of Kullu district. Bombay HC directs collector to remove 48 structures flouting aircraft rules
The Bombay high court on Friday directed the Mumbai suburban district collector to initiate measures to remove the 48 structures that are apparently coming in the path of the aircraft flying in and out of the Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj International Airport and are in violation of the Aircraft Obstacle Rules. The matter will next be heard on August 22. Buildings violating actual height restrictions are around eight. The matter was therafter forwarded to the collector.

Greenpeace gifts cycles to over 450 women in Bengaluru, Delhi in empowerment bid
In a bid to empower women from low-income groups, Greenpeace India has delivered bicycles to over 450 women labourers in Delhi and Bengaluru as part of the ‘power the pedal’ campaign. Nandi (48) and her husband Amarkant (54), who reside in a slum in south Delhi, cycle 20 to 25 kilometers every day to sell balloons in different markets across the national capital.
