Loud bangs have been heard near a shopping mall in Abu Dhabi, amid fears of a possible terrorist attack.
Pictures from the scene in the United Arab Emirates city’s down town area appear to show a skyscraper building on fire with smoke billowing into the air.
There is some unconfirmed suggestion a missile was fired into it.
However, other sources say the commotion is merely the result of a high rise tower catching fire.
A video shows dozens of emergency response vehicles having descended on the scene, with reports of two explosions.
One of the explosions is said to have occurred 20km from the hotel of the Brazillian football team Palmerias.
Earlier in the evening the team beat Al Ahly 2-0.
The city is set to play host to UEFA’s Club World Cup Competition in the coming days.
