A bride-to-be hugged partygoers and shared drinks in a club as part of her mission to catch Covid-19 now so it doesn’t ruin her wedding day in six weeks.

The woman was seen flouting the social distancing concept as she darted around a swanky nightclub in Melbourne, Australia months before she ties the knot in February.

Covid cases in Australia are reaching record heights as Omicron clubs together with other strains and lifts infections to almost 100,000 every day.

In the clip posted on video-sharing app TikTok, the soon-to-be wife hugs several men and other women boogying on the dancefloor – hoping to catch Covid so it doesn’t impede on her nuptials.

She captioned the clip, which was titled “Catch Covid not feelings”, saying: “POV your wedding is in six weeks and you still haven’t had Covid”.

Experts across the globe have warned of the dangers of going out of your way to catch the disease – which has killed millions worldwide.

At the start of December, one “catch-Covid” party in Norway ended with a record 50 to 60 people infected with the then-unresearched Omicron strain.

The woman may not get another chance to risk her health after the state of Victoria rolled out temporary bans on dancing indoors to slow Omicron’s spread.

Other bachelorettes hoping to save their big day, and potentially thousands of pounds, commented on the video.

One woman wrote: “Feb 5 bride and I feel this on so many levels.”

Another said: “We need to do this before your engagement just in case.”

Speaking to the Daily Mail, an infectious disease expert warned the public against trying to catch Covid deliberately.

Dr Catherine Bennett urged people to “avoid being infected for as long as you possibly can”.

The epidemiologist added that people actively trying to get infected when they could “ride through” the current surge “isn’t wise”.

“We’re hearing lots of people say ‘it might be mild’ but it’s actually really terrible, so if you can avoid it, do,” she added.

She advised people get a booster shot as a more sensible way of swerving the more severe aspects of the virus.
