Rivian produced its first customer vehicles last week at the former Mitsubishi plant in Normal, Ill. CEO RJ Scaringe tweeted photos of a blue R1T pickup coming off the assembly line after receiving regulatory approval from the EPA, NHTSA and the California Air Resources Board. Rivian will briefly have the electric pickup market to itself before competing products arrive from General Motors, Ford Motor Co., Tesla and several other companies.
