A devastated mum has said her family is shattered and is demanding justice after her daughter, 6, was killed when an off-road buggy she was in flipped.

Officers said that a man was driving the vehicle along with five girls and two boys on board, before it rolled into a paddock in Australia.

A six-year-old girl was taken to hospital with life-threatening injuries but sadly she died as a result of the crash.

Victoria Police have now charged a 33-year-old man from Rosedale in connection with the horrifying tragedy that happened on Saturday afternoon.

Scott and Yana Stevens were said to have been visiting the farm of family friends in rural Victoria along with their daughter Olivia.

They said she had squeezed into the four-seater buggy for the off-road ride together with the other children before she was killed in the incident.

Speaking to The Herald Sun Ms Stevens said: “The whole family is shattered. I don’t know if we will ever be the same. The house is quiet without her… I want justice.”

The tragedy has also left the whole community in shock, Mail Online reports, with Olivia’s gymnastics teacher Regan McDonald describing the girl as outgoing and friendly.

She said: “She was very kind hearted and willing to give everything a go.

“She had the cutest little laugh and told some really good jokes. It was heartbreaking to hear she didn’t make it.”

She was described as a girl who was always happy, had a passion for animals and ‘loved a cuddle and a story at night’ according to the Brisbane Times.

The alleged driver of the buggy Damien Gibson, 33, was reported to have appeared in Sale Magistrate’s Court on Monday via video with his arm in a sling after an injury.

Victoria Police said in a statement: “Major Collision Investigation Unit detectives have charged a man following a fatal crash involving an off-road buggy in Rosedale on Saturday afternoon.

“The 33-year-old Rosedale man has been charged with culpable driving, dangerous driving causing death, reckless conduct endangering life and recklessly cause injury.









“The charges follow an incident at a property on Dennison Road shortly after 4pm on 11 September.

“The man was allegedly driving the buggy, with five girls and two boys on board, when it rolled in a paddock.

“A six-year-old girl was airlifted to hospital with life-threatening injuries but sadly died from her injuries.

“A four-year-old girl was also airlifted to hospital with serious injuries.

“Five other children were assessed by paramedics and taken to hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.”
