The vaccination programme is being largely driven by government centres, health secretary Rajesh Bhushan said, adding that the private sector’s contribution continues to be abysmally low as it has administered only around 6% of the total number of doses between May 1 and September 22. Since May 1, 67.86 crore vaccine doses have been administered.
While the uptake of vaccines at private centres have been significantly low, the government has earlier clarified the share of jabs allocated to the private sector is “indicative and not an earmarked quota”. The government procures stocks are not taken by private hospitals.
The rural centres have administered the maximum 63.7% of the total doses given so far, while 35.4% were delivered at urban centres. Around 0.95% of doses have been administered at centres not tagged as rural/ urban, government data said.
