Indore (Madhya Pradesh): IIT Indore marked a significant milestone by holding the 57th Inter IIT Sports Meet for the first time, in collaboration with IIT Kanpur, from December 10 to 17.
The Inter IIT Sports Meet is a flagship event that brings together the brightest athletes from across the country, making it a true reflection of the IIT community’s vibrant sports culture. This event, inaugurated on December 9, showcased its commitment to sportsmanship and excellence.
Bringing together over 2,500 participants from all 23 IITs, this year’s competition spanned 12 disciplines. With 1370 participants at IIT Indore competing in events such as Athletics, Football, Badminton, Squash, Weightlifting, and Chess, the meet encapsulated the essence of sportsmanship, teamwork, and camaraderie that defines the IIT spirit.
The competition was fierce, with remarkable performances in each discipline. The Chess arena saw outstanding strategic play, with IIT Bombay in men’s category as the top champions. In Badminton, IIT Kanpur in men’s category and IIT Kharagpur in women’s category claimed victory in their respective categories, showcasing their skill and determination.
Squash matches were equally thrilling, where IIT Delhi in men’s category and IIT Bombay in women’s category exhibited excellent agility and technique to take home the championship titles. In Football, teams exhibited exceptional teamwork and resilience, and IIT Guwahati triumphed as the ultimate champion.
The Weightlifting competition, featuring male athletes, witnessed incredible feats of strength, with IIT Ropar lifting impressive weights to clinch the title. Athletics saw some of the most intense and electrifying performances across track and field events.
From the 100 meters to the 5000 meters, hurdles, and relays, as well as the field events like high jump, long jump, triple jump, pole vault, shot put, discus throw, javelin throw, and hammer throw, the athletes’ performances were nothing short of extraordinary.
The male and female champions in these events were celebrated for their unmatched perseverance, skill, and commitment to excellence. IIT Indore director Prof Suhas Joshi expressed his pride in hosting such a momentous event: “It is an honour for IIT Indore to host the 57th Inter IIT Sports Meet. This event is not just about competition; it is about collaboration, inspiration, and unity. It is a celebration of athletic excellence and a testament to the hard work and dedication of the young athletes who participated. The closing ceremony saw DAVV vice chancellor Prof Rakesh Singhai as the chief guest, who highlighted the values instilled by sports. “This meet serves as a reminder that true excellence is achieved not just through individual brilliance but through unity, mutual respect, and a shared vision,” he stated, celebrating the spirit of sportsmanship that defined the event.
