4 of Mumbai family killed in road accident in Sangli

Four persons of a family from Mumbai’s Malad area died while one other was critically injured when the car they were travelling in had a head-on collision with a private bus in Sangli district of Maharashtra Thursday morning.

The accident took place around 7 am on Vita Mahabaleshwar Road, near Vita town, located 55 kilometre from Sangli district headquarters and 180 kilometre south east of Pune city.

The family was on its way to their village in Sangli to attend an annual festival of the village deity when the accident took place. A police officer said the bus was moving on the wrong side of the road leading to the head-on collision.

The police have identified the deceased as Yogesh Kadam (35), Sunita Sadanand Kashid (62), Chandrakant Kashid (62) and Ashok Suryawanshi (60). The injured person, Sadanand Kashid, is being treated at a hospital in Sangli.

The police have arrested the bus driver and have booked him under IPC sections of rash driving and causing death due to negligence and also under relevant sections of the Motor Vehicles Act.
