At least four people were injured in clashes between groups belonging to two communities in the Ahmednagar district of Maharashtra on Tuesday night, said the police. The clash followed a similar one in the Jalgaon district on March 28.

The district police have arrested 10 people till now and detained some others for questioning. They said the clashes occurred in the Warulwadi area of the district located on Ahmednagar-Sambhajinagar Road.

“The dispute started near a mosque when one group was passing through the area and had arguments with another group. A two-wheeler was set on fire, and subsequently, some vehicles were vandalised. Stone pelting was also reported. At least four people have been injured in the clashes,” said an officer from the Ahmednagar district police.

“We are also investigating whether some social media messages posted by both sides had anything to do with the clashes. We are probing all possibilities. We have arrested 10 persons till now and are questioning some more,” the officer added.

Superintendent of Police (Ahmednagar) Rakesh Ola told the media, “The persons injured in the incident are
being treated at the civil hospital. Some people are spreading rumours about the incident. We urge people not to believe rumours. The police investigation is on the right track.”

Communal violence had broken out in Paldhi in Maharashtra’s Jalgaon district on March 28 after a religious procession accompanied by DJ music was taken out in front of a mosque.
