33 people carrying ‘Shivjayanti Jyot’ injured in Pune after truck hits tempo

Thirty-three people carrying the ‘Shivjayanti Jyot’, a flame to commemorate the birth anniversary of Maratha king Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj, were injured after a speeding truck hit their tempo in Pune’s Ravet early on Friday, the police said.

A team from Hinjewadi police station has initiated an investigation into the incident. Senior Police Inspector Vivek Muglikar said the group was carrying the ‘Shivjayanti Jyot’ from Malhargad fort in Saswad to Shilatane.

All the injured were shifted to a hospital for treatment, the police said, adding that the process of lodging a first information report (FIR) against the truck driver was on.
