Six years ago, Jaysingh Yadav (28) shifted to Pune from Prayagraj in UP to find work as a labourer at the Market Yard. On Wednesday, his journey to secure a better life for his family of five was derailed after his three-year-old daughter Poonam was run over by a speeding truck at the yard.
Police said the girl was standing near a road divider in Lane No. 15 at the yard when a speeding truck knocked her down around 4.30 pm on Monday. The girl was rushed to a hospital where she was pronounced dead by the doctors.
“We shifted to Pune for employment about six years ago. Since then, I have been working as a labourer in Market Yard. My daughter left home and went on the road and all of a sudden she was hit by the truck,” said Yadav, Poonam’s father, before breaking down in tears. Poonam is survived by her parents and two brothers.
After registering an FIR on Yadav’s complaint, the police arrested the truck driver Bharat Sabale on charges of negligent driving. “Further probe is on,” said Sub Inspector Chetan Bhosale, the investigation officer in the case.
