NEW DELHI: Three Kashmiri Pandits were among the 14 civilians belonging to minority communities killed in terror incidents in Jammu & Kashmir till November 30 this year.
The ministry of home affairs shared this information with the Rajya Sabha on Wednesday, against the backdrop of a terrorist blog ‘Kashmir Fight’ — linked to The Resistance Front — having put out a ‘hit-list’ of Kashmiri Pandits employed under the Prime Minister’s rehabilitation package.
In reply to another question from BJP MP Sushil Kumar Modi, junior home minister Nityanand Rai acknowledged that a similar hit-list of eight journalists from various local media in Srinagar was earlier circulated by ‘Kashmir Fight’, prompting four of them to resign.
Rai said a case had been registered in this regard by the Jammu & Kashmir Police and various security measures put in place, including a pro-active security grid comprising the police, Army, central paramilitary forces and intelligence agencies to thwart any terror attacks; operations to seek, arrest and neutralise terrorists, and enhanced security for mediapersons.
According to Rai, similar security measures were also taken to protect Kashmiri Pandits after the killing of Rahul Bhat, a member of the community, in May this year. These include group security in the form of static guards, day and night area domination, round-theclock nakas (check posts) at strategic points and speculative cordon and search operations. “Inter alia a robust security and intelligence grid is in place in Jammu & Kashmir to thwart any attempts at the hand of the terrorists,” he said.
In a related question on PM’s package for rehabilitation of Kashmir Pandits in the Valley, the junior home minister said that 3,000 jobs had been created for Kashmir migrants, of which appointments were made in case of 2,639 jobs. Also, 6,000 transit accommodation units were approved for Kashmir Pandit government employees and construction of 1,025 units completed.
The Union government is reimbursing monthly cash relief of Rs 3,250 offered to each Kashmiri migrant, subject to a ceiling of Rs 13,000 per family. This relief is hiked from time to time on the recommendation of the Jammu & Kashmir government.
“No fresh (Kashmiri) migrant has been registered in the last five years,” he added.
