3 dead after stabbings in Montreal, suspect in custody, police say

Three people are dead following stabbings in Montreal’s Rosemont neighbourghood and a suspect is in custody. A major police operation is underway.

Three people are dead following stabbings in Montreal’s Rosemont neighbourhood and the incident has triggered a major police operation.

According to the Service de Police de la Ville de Montréal, a 911 call was placed at around 9:20 a.m. regarding people in need of assistance inside an apartment building near the corner of Bélanger and Viau streets near the Montreal Heart Institute.

Officers then found the three victims inside the building. Their deaths were confirmed at the scene. 

Police would not confirm the link between the victims and the suspect.

A spokesperson for the SPVM each of the bodies suffered wounds from a sharp object. A suspect is in custody.

There are several emergency vehicles on the scene and police have set up a security perimeter between Bélanger and 40th Avenue.
