A teenage boy died by drowning in a swimming tank at Pune’s Hadapsar area Friday. The police identified the deceased as Krushna Ganesh Shinde (16), a resident of Malwadi in Hadapsar.
The police said the deceased was a student of the ninth standard at a school in Hadapsar. He had gone swimming with his uncle. After some time, his uncle came out of the tank but soon noticed that Shinde was not visible in the swimming tank.
He was later fished out of the tank and taken to a hospital but the doctors pronounced him dead. After knowing about the incident, a team of Hadapsar police initiated a probe.
The police sent the body for post-mortem. As per the procedure, a case of accidental death was registered at the Hadapsar police station and a probe was launched to confirm the cause behind the incident.
Police said prima-facie, it is known that the boy died by drowning. “Probe is on to know whether there were any life guard and essential precautionary measures around the swimming tank run by a school,” said senior police inspector Arvind Gokule.
