A five-year-old remains unaccounted for, NSW Police said.

The four rescued people were taken to Dubbo Hospital for treatment.

“The two vehicles remain submerged in floodwaters and police will remain onsite and wait until they can access the vehicles,” police said in a statement.

It comes as parts of northern and western NSW have been inundated by floodwaters for the fourth time this year with roads swallowed by water and multiple rescues carried out.

A number of flood warnings remain in place for the state’s inland catchments with water levels expected to continue rising today despite the rain stopping.

Authorities have warned this is “just the beginning” of a long disaster season through spring and summer in NSW as the country endures a third consecutive La Nina weather event.
