The Maharashtra government has issued a tender for the construction of a 60 feet tall Chhatrapati Shivaji statue at Rajkot in Malvan, where his statue had collapsed recently, leading to an uproar. According to the tender, the work of the statue should be completed in six months. The tender is open to both registered and unregistered contractors.

“The lifespan of the statue should be 100 years. The structure should be in stainless steel, which is non corrosive. Both material and design have to be vetted by a team of the Indian Institute of Technology, Bombay,” said an official of the Public Works Department.

“The design, engineering, construction, and maintenance of a statue of Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj at Rajkot in Sindhudurg’s Malvan taluka,” the tender read. It has been issued by the office of the Executive Engineer of the Public Works department in Kankavli, Sindhudurg district.

The approximate project cost is ₹20 Crore. The contractors will have to give a deposit amount of ₹20 Lakh. The tenders can be downloaded and submitted by October 1, between 10 am and 6 pm every day.

A 35 feet statue of Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj collapsed on August 26, leading to a political uproar. It was unveiled by Prime Minister Narendra Modi just last year.
