The director of тАЬLilo & StitchтАЭ doesnтАЩt think his movie gets quite enough credit.

In an interview with┬аThe New York Times, the Disney filmтАЩs co-writer and director Chris Sanders expressed his frustrations with the praise тАЬFrozenтАЭ got when it premiered in 2013.

тАЬTo be clear, I think тАШFrozenтАЩsтАЩ great,тАЭ Sanders said. тАЬBut it was a little bit frustrating for me because people were like, тАШFinally, a nonromantic relationship with these two girls,тАЩ and I thought, тАШWe did that! That has absolutely been done before.тАЩтАЭ

тАЬLilo & StitchтАЭ, which was released 20 years ago, told the story of a young girl becoming friends with the galaxyтАЩs most wanted extraterrestrial.

Amid all that, the film depicts LiloтАЩs relationship with her older sister Nani, which becomes fractured after their parentsтАЩ death.

тАЬWhen the film came out, thatтАЩs what a lot of critics talked about,тАЭ said producer Clark Spender. тАЬThose moments that were based in reality in a way that people could see themselves in, and it didnтАЩt feel like they were cartoon characters.тАЭ

The film was a success in 2002, earning over $270 million worldwide and praise from critics.
