PATNA: The Economic Offence Unit (EOU) on Sunday conducted raids at five locations, including New Delhi and Patna, linked to building construction department executive engineer cum residence engineer in connection with disproportionate assets, EOU officials said.
The EOU Superintendent of Police (SP), Sushil Kumar, said that the action was taken against the engineer after they received complaints against him. тАЬThe EOU lodged a case against the engineer Firoz Alam for having acquired 91.08% assets of disproportions, under the sections of 13 (2), 13 (1) b of the prevention of corruption Act, 1988 with amendment Act 2018. The raids were conducted after the EOU officer procured a search warrant from the court against him. The raids are going on in New Delhi and Patna,тАЭ he said.
The officer said that Alam, an engineer in the building construction department, allegedly acquired immense wealth by corrupt means.
The SP said that during the raids, тВ╣143 lakh cash along with gold was recovered from the house of Alam situated at Sukhdev Vihar, New Delhi, while two flats, one at Johari farm and one at Sahinbagh were discovered. Raids were also conducted at the Bihar Sadan office at Dwarka and Daniel Mansion office in Patna belonging to Zahiruddin Alam, the brother of the accused.
тАЬSome documents have also been recovered related to properties, which is being verified. The raids are still going on,тАЭ the SP said.

Tremors were felt in several parts of Bihar after a moderate earthquake jolted Nepal on Sunday morning, officials said. According to the National Centre for Seismology, an earthquake of magnitude 5.5 on the Richter scale jolted Nepal’s Dhitung, 147 km east-southeast of Kathmandu at 7: 58 am. The depth of the quake was 10km. Darbhanga, Supaul, Kishanganj, Katihar, Sitamarhi, Samastpur, Begusarai, Muzaffarpur, and Araria reportedly felt the tremors around 8 am, officials said.

26 mm rainfall lashes Ludhiana, inundates multiple localities
Multiple areas in the city including the posh localities of Model Town, Model Town Extension and Sarabha Nagar were left inundated after the city witnessed 26 mm rainfall on Sunday. Residents also complained against heavy waterlogging on Gill Road and Hambran Road and water also accumulated on Chandigarh Road, near Clock Tower, despite installation of storm sewer lines recently. Similar issues were also highlighted by residents of Chandigarh road.

Serpentine queues of vehicles were witnessed as members of Bhartiya Kisan Union (Ekta Ugrahan) laid siege to the Ludhiana-Ferozepur Highway near Mullanpur from 11am to 3pm as part of the state-wide agitation against the Union government on Sunday. Khargone communal violence: Key accused arrested days after NSA slapped on him
The prime accused in the violence that broke out in Madhya Pradesh’s Khargone district in April during a Ram Navami procession was arrested on Sunday. Khan, had a bounty of Rs 10,000 on him. He was nabbed from the Khaltaka area of Khargone district. тАЬAt least 11 criminal cases, including arson, stone pelting, and violence, were registered against Khan during the April 10 communal riots,тАЭ Superintendent of Police Dharmveer Singh told news agency PTI.

DelhiтАЩs Covid positivity rate at 9.35%, capital sees 1,200 new cases in 24 hours
The number of Covid-19 cases in Delhi hovered above the 1,000-mark for the fifth consecutive day as the national capital reported 1,263 cases in the last 24 hours. The positivity rate in the city stood at 9.3 per cent, as against 8 per cent seen the previous day. While Delhi witnessed three deaths on Saturday, no new Covid-linked fatalities were reported in the last 24 hours and the death toll remained unchanged at 26,311.
