There’s a mix of pure entertainment and thought-provoking meetings in Pune this weekend. A publisher of Dalit stories will talk to readers and sign books while, at another stage, four fictional women will try to break free of patriarchal bonds.

Asha Bhosle, whose songs form the backdrop of the dreams and heartbreaks of generations of listeners, will be in Pune after a long time. She will be accompanied by Bollywood playback singer Sudesh Bhosle. The concert is by the Child Development Foundation and Charitable Trust with Morya Entertainment and will have retro numbers in Marathi and Hindi.

Water In A Broken Pot: A Memoir is a critically acclaimed work about Dalit publisher, writer and poet Yogesh Maitreya’s experiences with his caste identity, his father’s alcoholism and the power of cinema, among others. He is the founder-editor of Panther’s Paw Publication, whose efforts are focussed on turning the spotlight on literature by Dalit-Bahujan writers. Maitreya will be in conversation with academician Dr Akanksha Mehta.
Four women vs patriarchy

Ace actor Rohini Hattangadi leads a powerful cast of women in a play, titled Char Chaughi, about four women who are loosening the bonds of a patriarchal society. The play is set in Pune and explores the trials and errors of the women’s pursuit of love and dignity. The current production has a fresh cast but the play, written by Prashant Dalvi and directed by Chandrakant Kulkarni, is counted as one of the most important and progressive plays in modern Marathi theatre. It has returned to the stage after more than three decades.

A rock band with a difference, Thaikkudam Bridge broke through our imaginations with their very first album, Navarasam, in 2016. Three years later, another album Namah, created a different kind of magic by roping in legendary artistes from around the world and genres. Since then, there have been hundreds of concerts and lots of music. It’s Pune’s turn to rock this weekend.

Guldasta, a play based on three stories by two women writers, Amrita Pritam and Ankita Jain, revolves around love. In Pritam’s Yeh Kahaani Nahi, it is the deep love “that set the background score to two lives, of Pritam and poet-lyricist Sahir Ludhianvi”. Room No 50 and Maalin Bhouji, by Jain, are about identities that force the protagonists to soul search.
