The police have lodged an offence after four youths who got into a road accident while riding a motorcycle at high speed in Pune’s Katraj Ghat early on Saturday were allegedly found armed with country-made pistols.
Officers said one Santosh Paswan, 21, and two minor boys were injured in the incident. The fourth person, whose age is yet to be confirmed, managed to escape from the spot.
Senior Police Inspector Vijay Kumbhar said, “No arrest has been made yet. The three youngsters who sustained severe injuries in the incident were admitted to a hospital for treatment. We have recovered two country-made pistols and two live cartridges from the accused.”
The first information report (FIR) in this case was lodged at Bharati Vidyapeeth police station Saturday. The police said the four youths were riding the motorcycle from the old tunnel in Katraj Ghat towards the Katraj side. A boy aged 16, who controlled the vehicle, lost control on a slope and the motorcycle crashed, they added.
On receiving an alert about the accident, a team from Bharati Vidyapeeth police station rushed to the spot. The police said the youth who ran away from the spot was carrying the firearms, but it fell on the road during the accident. Officers suspect the accused were planning to commit a serious offence using the weapons.
The police have booked the four accused under sections 279, 338, 427 of the Indian Penal Code and under sections of the Indian Arms Act and Motor Vehicles Act.
