Old acquaintance killed professor couple in Bihar’s Arrah, reveals police probe

Bihar’s Bhojpur police on Thursday arrested the main accused from Assam for the murder of a professor couple in Arrah district, officials said.

The arrested person is said to be an old acquaintance of the couple.

Mahendra Prasad Singh was former dean of students’ welfare of Veer Kunwar Singh university and former head of department of political science of VKSU while his wife Pushpa Singh was former head of department of psychology department of MM Mahila college who later moved on to the PG department of VKSU.

The accused admitted to his crime and said he killed them after he failed to get his money back.

He told police that he met the professor at a hotel in Patna where he was working as a staff.

The professor had assured him of a job. He used to frequently visit the couple’s house.

The accused demanded back his money to the tune of 3-4 lakh which was assured by the professor to be given to the former.

On January 29, the alleged accused demanded back his money and when he did not get it, he first killed the professor’s wife and then stabbed Mahendra.

After the murder, the accused took away 50,000, some jewellery and mobile phones of the couple.

Police recovered both the mobile phones, 8,100 in cash and the jewellery too.

Bhojpur SP Pramod Kumar said the team led by ASP Himanshu ensured a speedy probe and helped to crack the case.

In the process, police had 500 CCTV footage of different locations including Arrah, Patna and Danapur railway stations.

The couple were found murdered at their Arrah residence on January 29.

They were survived by three daughters, all of them married.
