SHIMLA: Former Himachal Pradesh chief minister and leader of opposition Jai Ram Thakur on Wednesday said that whatever Congress leader Rahul Gandhi said in the Parliament against Prime Minister Narendra Modi is a “bundle of lies”.
“Making false allegations and then running away has been the habit of the Congress leader who has always been doing politics of lies. Most leaders in the Congress are implicated in corruption charges. Rahul Gandhi and his family members are on bail for corruption worth thousands of crores in the National Herald case. People of the country also know that Rahul’s sister had sold a painting for crores of rupees to a jailed banker,” he said.
Thakur, in a statement issued on Wednesday, added that the Congress government was popular as a government of scams. “Scams worth lakhs of crores of rupees took place in the 10 years of the UPA government headed by the Congress. Rahul Gandhi and the Congress party should remember that their politics of lies is never going to be successful because the people of the country know and understand their tactics very well,” he said.
He added that the way Rahul unsuccessfully tried to prove the lie as truth on Tuesday in the Lok Sabha is unfortunate. “The Congress leader has only tried to spread sensation in the whole country. Anyone in public life can have photographs with anyone, it does not mean that a person has a personal relationship with him,” he said referring to Rahul showing a photo of PM Modi to business tycoon Gautam Adani.
Rahul had alleged in the Parliament on Tuesday that the Indian government took several steps solely to benefit Adani and his group of companies, which are now engrossed in Hindenburg controversy.
Thakur said that Rahul, his mother and former Congress president Sonia Gandhi, family members and senior party leaders like Ashok Gehlot have pictures with many big businessmen as well but it does not mean that they are also associated with them.
“During the UPA rule, coal scam of Rs 1.86 lakh crore, Commonwealth scam of about Rs 70,000 crore, Adarsh Society scam in land reserved for the army, 2G scam of Rs 1.96 lakh crore, AgustaWestland scam and submarine scam was reported. The Congress government was a scamster government. Who can forget the Bofors scam, in which Rahul Gandhi’s father Rajiv Gandhi faced the allegations,” Thakur asked.
