DEHRADUN: In one of the major steps aimed at providing health facilities to people residing in the far-flung hills and treacherous landscape of mountains, the Telemedicine Society of India (TSI) inaugurated its Uttarakhand chapter on Monday.

The president of TSI and executive director (ED) of AIIMS Rishikesh, professor Dr Meenu Singh and Dr Murthy Remilla, secretary, TSI, jointly launched the chapter. Addressing the audience, the speakers described the telemedicine facility as a “special benefit” for hilly states like Uttarakhand and Himachal Pradesh with odd geographical conditions.

Dr Meenu Singh said that “other medical and nursing colleges in the country will also be connected with this technology-based medical facility soon”. She added that plans are being made at various levels to widely spread this technology-based facility for health care and better education.
